1745 Sukenobu - Original Shunga Book - Heaven & Hell theme - gay & bestiality

SKU : han013

Authentic Edo period original, c.1745, Japanese shunga erotic art woodblock print picture book by Nishikawa Sukenobu (1671-1750).  Volume one (of three) from the shunga series, Shikido SanzegawaShikido translates to one's sexsual way and Sanzegawa is a river name which all dead people must cross towards heaven/hell.  Similar to the River Styx in Greek mythology.  Shunga picture book measures 16 cm x 22.2 cm closed.  Very good impressions and good condition with some cover wear and light wear inside the book with wormage here and there.  Quite firmly intact and can be perused easily without worry of any harm to the book.  Original cover and only binding string has been replaced.  No backing for the pages.  All photos shown here with remaining pages being kanji text pages.  Please see and judge from photos.

An extremely rare book with an extraordinary story where our protagonist seems to be struggling in some kind of sexual hell/purgatory.  In this volume there are also two scarce scenes; one of a woman engaged sexually with a horse and another gay anal sex scene where an older man takes a younger male from behind as a senior male looks on in awe.  Great artwork, great scenes, a fantastic original Japanese shunga ehon from the 1700s!
