Shunga picture book measures 14.7 cm x 20.7 cm closed.
Very good impressions and very good condition with some wear and soiling; a few pages have a bit of wormage near the bottom of the artwork. All pictures are shown here (22 total picture pages); pictures on every page. Please see and judge from photos.
A rare original shunga book by Suzuki Harunobu, dating to the early period of erotic ukiyo-e production. The shunga book highlights Harunobu’s refined composition and elegant craftsmanship. Notable scenes include an uncommon, if not comical, homoerotic encounter (the older dominant male intrudes upon the young lovers' liaison, but does give the young man a courteous hand-job while penetrating his female partner). Also a memorable winter shunga set in falling snow, a fabulous and always highly-popular shunga theme in erotic books of this era.
A scarce and historically important example from one of the more prestigious ukiyo-e artists of the 18th century —for serious Edo-period shunga collectors.
