Two authentic Edo period original, c.1800, Japanese erotic art shunga woodblock print pictures by a member of the Kitagawa School. 
 
Shunga pictures measure approximately 10.3 cm x 16 cm each.  Very good colors and impressions.  Condition is decent for their age with some wear, soiling, stains, and wormage mainly on the white borders.  No backing.  Please see and judge from photos provided.
 
Japanese original shunga woodblock print pictures presenting four remarkably unusual comparative studies of female genitalia across two separate sheets.  The vaginas are isolated and presented almost diagrammatically, with written commentary and classifications ranking differing types and characteristics.  Together, the two sheets have the fascinating appearance of an Edo-period erotic anatomical guide, examining and categorizing female genitalia with extraordinary directness and detail.
 
These c.1800 Kitagawa School anatomical studies are also particularly significant for their direct artistic connection to the later shunga of Keisai Eisen.  Eisen copied this distinctive approach to enlarged and isolated genitalia and carried the style into his own anatomical erotic works of the 1820–1845 period.  A fascinating and exceptionally unusual pair of early shunga pictures documenting the classification and ranking of female sexuality in Edo-period erotic art.
