Original & Rare Japanese Hand-Painted Hanging Scroll (Kakejiku) of a beautiful tiger (tora)

Date:  Edo/Meiji Period, c. early to mid 1800s

Artist:  Unknown

Title of Scroll:  Tora (Tiger)

Description:  This 100% genuine and authentic Japanese hanging scroll (kakejiku) features a hand-painted image of a magnificent Asian tiger mounted on an elegant blue and gold silk scroll.  The artwork is an original piece from the Edo/Meiji period, dated early to mid 1800s, and is not a print nor machine copy.  The silk scroll backing itself has been replaced and is from the contemporary era (post-Showa period), hence the magnificent condition.

The condition of the scroll is excellent, with minimal wear - please refer to the photos for a closer look.  Even the tiger picture itself shows clear and meticulous brush strokes for its hairlines and minute details - a stunning and well-preserved traditional Asian tiger work of art!

The entire scroll measures 178 cm x 44 cm, while the picture itself is 101 cm x 32 cm.  The wooden storage box (not the original) is included, with the kanji characters for "tiger" (tora) written on it.

A fabulous and rare antique Japanese kakejiku - the tiger artwork has a mythical and omnipotent aura that deifies the animal's power, ferocity, and beauty.  If you appreciate the old style and beauty of Japanese art, you will truly love this stunning piece!
