The Dildo Thief – Utagawa School, c.1840s

A hilarious scene from the legendary satirical series of the Utagawa school, likely by Kunisada’s circle.  A woman recoils in surprise as her cat scampers away with her striped harigata (dildo), proudly dragging it by the tassel like a prized catch.  The startled expression, rich patterns, and clever visual storytelling make this one of the most lighthearted and memorable images in the series — blending eroticism with pure comedic timing.
 
Measures 12 cm x 18.1 cm.  Very good colors and impressions.   Condition is fair+/decent with some wear, soiling, creasing at top corners, few pinholes.  Please see and judge from the photos provided.
