Authentic & original Meiji period, c.1897 Japanese erotic art shunga woodblock print picture by Takeuchi Keishu (1861-1942). Title of this deluxe shunga series: Hazakura (Leaves of the Cherry Blossom). Publisher: Hakubunkan. The shunga pictures in this series make use of various deluxe printing techniques such as urushi-e, which is a type of black lacquer used to add sheen and lustre to the lovers' hair, as well as the black kimonos. A generous use of mica (metallic pigments, especially silver mica) on the objects in the room, as well as adding beauty to some of the kimono designs. Gauffrage (a delicate type of embossing) which adds texture to the clothing. In this series it is often applied to the collar and sash. And gofun, (a white powder derived from crushed seashells) to magnify the vaginal fluids secreting from the woman's vagina. Shunga picture measures 23.6 cm x 33 cm. Superb colors and impressions!
