Utamaro Shunga - Terukata Erotic Art - Ecstasy
Authentic Meiji-period (c. 1900) Japanese erotic art shunga woodblock print picture attributed to Ikeda Terukata. This piece is inspired by Kitagawa Utamaro's iconic Edo-period series, Ehon Komachibiki, originally published in 1802.
The shunga woodblock print picture measures 24.9 cm x 36.5 cm, showcasing vibrant colors and strong impressions. It is in decent+ condition with some wear and soiling, but retains its original character. No backing. Please refer to the photos for details.
Ikeda Terukata was not only a remarkable shunga artist in his own right (and arguably the best of his peers from the Meiji Period), but also a masterful interpreter of Edo-period styles, emulating the techniques of Eiri, Hokusai, and, of course, Utamaro. This series stands as a stunning tribute to Utamaro's shunga classic, capturing its essence with remarkable precision.
