An exceptionally striking late Edo-period Japanese woodblock print depicting the famed fireman Shirataki Sakichi, dramatically portrayed with elaborate upper-bodied shishi (lion-dog) tattoos winding across both arms and shoulder regions. Richly detailed and atmospheric, the piece perfectly captures the bold spirit of Edo Period tattoo culture and masculine warrior-style bravado. The surviving colors — rich in penetrating bokashi-shaded blues — and intense expression give the work tremendous visual impact. This antique Japanese artwork would display superbly once framed.
