A vibrant and cohesive group of 42 original Edo-period shunga surimono woodblock prints, attributed to the Utagawa school.  Each picture measures approximately 12.5 × 9.5 cm and is mounted to album pages (21 double-sided sheets, 42 shunga pictures total - all scenes shown above).
 
These works display the bold palette and decorative richness characteristic of mid-19th century Utagawa production—deep cobalt blues, saturated vermilions, and layered patterned textiles set against floral and seasonal backdrops of chrysanthemums, peonies, and blossoming branches.  The compositions are intimate, energetic, and often playful, reflecting the theatrical dynamism that defines Utagawa-school shunga.  Note the playful cat one!
