RARE - 1836 - Hokusai Picture Book - Samurai vs Monsters

SKU : han2822

Artist:  Katsushika HOKUSAI (1760-1849)

Date:  Original, 1st edition woodblock print picture book from the Edo Period, 1836, by Hokusai titled, Ehon Musashi no Abumi (A Picture Book of Japanese Warriors)

Description: 100% genuine & authentic Japanese woodblock print picture book (e-hon) by Hokusai from 1836 absolutely loaded with fantastic samurai battle artwork!  There are numerous battles between samuria, but also some versus giant monsters, such as oni (demons), a giant koi (carp), a giant snake (who actually seems to be revered by the praying samurai).  Very good impressions.  Condition is fair/decent with more wear to show at the front of the book.  Aside from the soiling and wear throughout, several pictures have small amounts of ink markings.  Please see and judge from photos.

Size of the woodblock print picture book closed:  22.5 cm x 15.5 cm .  Approximately 57 woodblock print picture pages!!!  Every page has action-packed samurai warrior artwork!

It's virtually impossible to come across original Hokusai Edo Period artwork nowadays due to his popularity exploding worldwide over the past several years.  This is your chance - and perhaps final one! - to procure one of his original and more exciting picture books every made.
