Rare - Hokusai - Octopus Shunga - Dream of Fisherman's Wife 2
Authentic Edo period, 1814, re-strike Japanese erotic art shunga woodblock print picture (not a cheap lithograph nor a simple copy) by Katsushika Hokusai (1760-1849). This re-strike woodblock print is from 2020 and was printed by Yamamoto.
There are ONLY two Hokusai Octopus Shunga WOODBLOCK PRINT remakes, and this rendition here is considerably aesthetically more pleasing than the one put out by a different publisher in 2018, which has, in all honesty, a fat white line - referred to as "the gutter" - running down the middle of the picture, essentially ruining it in my opinion. Not here, as this 2020 re-strike is just as large and gorgeous as the Edo Period original, and of course, in perfect condtion with excellent colors and impressions! No backing. Please examine the accompanying photographs to fully appreciate the exceptional craftsmanship and intricate detail of this beautiful woodblock print.
Shunga woodblock print picture measures approximately 24 cm x 34 cm.
A beautiful alternative rendition of Katsushika Hokusai's legendary 1814 masterpiece, The Dream of the Fisherman's Wife. Produced by the same woodblock carver and printer as the 2020 re-strike, this striking variant presents Hokusai's iconic composition without the original Japanese kanji text, allowing the extraordinary artwork to command the viewer's full attention. The uninterrupted composition, delicate linework, vibrant colors, and exquisite detail make this an especially appealing interpretation of the most famous shunga image ever created. A superb traditional woodblock print reproduction of an Edo-period masterpiece, retaining all the visual impact and artistry of Hokusai's celebrated original.
