Senju - Limited Edition Shunga - Tengu Toy
Senju – Limited Edition Shunga – Daranibo (tengu of mt. Fuji)
Limited Edition Erotic Shunga Print by Senju
From Senju’s 36 Views of Mount Fuji – Shunga Reimagined series, Daranibō (Tengu of Mount Fuji) is one of the artist’s most provocative and symbolic compositions — merging folklore, eroticism, and humor through masterful Edo-inspired minimalism.
In this scene, the red-faced mountain spirit Tengu—a mischievous bird-man-like, and often lustful figure in Japanese mythology—appears within a framed fan alongside the serene presence of Mount Fuji. His exaggerated features, particularly the long nose, are rendered with exquisite precision, embodying both comic exaggeration and erotic metaphor. Above, maple leaves drift softly across the page, a classic seasonal motif symbolizing the passage of time and desire.
In contrast, the adjoining image captures a woman using the same mask as an erotic pleasure toy, her pale form luminous against the warm neutral tones of the paper. The juxtaposition between divine mischief and human pleasure creates a layered narrative that is equal parts erotic, spiritual, and satirical — a reflection of Senju’s gift for translating Edo wit into modern sophistication.
This new edition showcases richer color, greater contrast, and cleaner linework, further emphasizing the refined gradients and soft paper texture that have become Senju’s hallmark.
