Original & Very Rare Japanese Hand-Painted Hanging Scroll (Kakejiku) of Mt. Fuji
Date:  1672 for the original Mt Fuji painting.  The silk scroll backing itself is of a latter period.
Artist and further information:  The artist is Kano Yu-itsu (狩野有信), who lived during the early Edo period.  He was born in the 11th year of the Keicho era (1606) and was a pupil of Kano Tan'yu.  He served under Matsudaira Shinano no Kami.  There is a record of him signing this painting in the 12th year of the Kanbun era (1672) when he was 67 years old at the time.  His artist name was Yukan-sai (友閑斎).  Of course, he was also a member of the Kano School of painting and was known for his mastery of traditional Japanese painting techniques.  His paintings often depicted landscapes, nature scenes, and animals, including his famous depictions of Mount Fuji.
